That's great doing some "cleaning" of the rod, but after a point you may very well be weakening it (despite what you say). Weight is only one of many factors to consider when selecting rods. Yes, your rod may be lighter than one rod or the other, but that could also fall into material selection, design, and, most importantly, power goals. The stock rods were designed with some power goal in mind, while racing rods may have higher goals. Doesn't seem worth it IMHO, especially considering how cheap some sets of rods are nowadays and the labor that goes into each of your used rods...
